He is also popular for his association with the independent film movement.

John Turturro also became more popular after his movie The Big Lebowski where he starred as Jesus Quintana. The Jesus Rolls is written and directed by John Turturro. He acted as the main character of ‘The Jesus Rolls’ film based from the remake of 1974 film ‘Going Places’ by Bertrand Blier and a 1998 film big hit ‘The Big Lebowski’ by the Coen Brothers. The Jesus Rolls is a kind of funny movie mixed with crime that simply exists to deliver a line or infelicitous wisecrack.

The movie is about Jesus Quintanna, John Turturro’s character, who reunites with his best friend after being releases from prison. They sealed their friendship with crime and romance. To put it more simple, the plot of the story is similar with the original ‘Going Places’ and followed by a trio of sexually perverted persons portrayed by John Turturro, Bobby Cannavale, and Audrey Tautao.

Casts of the film also include Bobby Cannavale as Petey, Audrey Tautao as Marie, Pete Davidson as Jack, John Hamm as Paul and Susan Sarandon as Jean. The person who acts as his mother is Soñia Braga. The film also starred Nicolas Reyes, Gloria Reuben, Tim Blake Nelson, J.B. Smoove, and Nićolas Riera. The movie was released last October 2019 at the Rome Film Festival and on February 2020 at the United States Screen Media Films.
